Chinese Characters Teaching Program For Spanish Students

Today Chinese language has become very popular worldwide. Spain is no exception with an increasing number of people registering to learn Chinese in the past ten years. China’s economy development has facilitated a rise in Chinese migration to Spain, and as a result, the economic and cultural ties between the two countries are getting stronger. Consequently, studying Chinese language has become a popular choice for many in Spain.However, Chinese language has been taught in Spanish universities for only a short period of time. According to our surveys and interviews with Spanish teachers, Barcelona University began to have a Chinese language department in the1980’s. Although there has been development of various Chinese language facilities across Spain, it still does not compare to other countries such Germany or France.For the teaching of Chinese language in Spain, I believe that if we can solve the problems with existing Chinese teaching methods, then we will most likely improve the speed of Chinese character acquisition. In this thesis we went through questionnaires to understand the problems encountered by Spaniards in the process of learning Chinese characters.
