As a commonly used genre in modern English, journalistic English is generallyfeatured by its real-time character, its amusing effect as well as its conciseness. Newsreading has been one of most important means for the general public to keepthemselves well-informed of the current foreign affairs. However, the frequentemergence of neologisms, slangs and metaphors has posed a problem for the commonreadership at home. This is particularly true of the financial news. Through a carefulstudy of basic translation theory as well as the linguistic features of news English, theauthor of this report first undergoes an in-depth study and analysis of several pieces offinancial news articles from the Economist. Then, by adopting some translationmethods and concepts as well as giving due consideration to the linguistic features ofjournalistic English, she turns these several excerpts into Chinese faithfully andsmoothly with a view to helping readers get a clear view of her translated excerpts. After giving a comparative analysis of the common features of journalistic English theauthor points out that financial news English is also of certain special stylistic features due to the uniqueness of its involved fields, chiefly in terms of word use, grammar, rhetoric use and writing structure. In addition, these excerpts contain typical economicpolicies as well as social phenomena in Asian and European countries, from which thegeneral readership can not only acquaint themselves with the current events at homeand abroad, but also can gain some experience and draw certain lessons. Criticism andguidance from veterans or teachers in the translator community are cordially welcome. And hence China’s news translation career can be continuously thriving.
