According to the "Zhou Li," the rite of Zhou dynasty were five categories:good rite, badrite, guest rite, military rite and marriage rite.People always try to use the "five rite" to sumup the entire contents of the “Zhou Li”. In fact, the "Five rite" didn’t contain all of the ZhouDynasty rite, in which there is a rite that is not subordinate to the guest rite but it crossedover the guest rite, and it was far different from the guest rite, it was called visitor rite."Guest" and "visitor" in oracle figure are in similar, but have greater difference between theoriginal. Both have the meaning of "from the outside to", in JinWen "guest" and "visitor" allhave "customers" meaning as a noun, this provides the premise for using “guest”and”visitor” together. And the differences of "guest" and "visitor" provide the starting pointof the characters for discussing the similarities and differences of the guest rite and the visitorrite. The suitable targets of the western zhou dynasty and guest rite were Qi, Song, Chen andZhou royal family, or lodger kingdoms. Zhou treated the "three kingdoms" with guest rite, reflected in the rank of nobility of song and the geld, Qi and Chen were protected and lead bythe great country as the guest of Zhou. The lodger in the countries had a high standard guestrite courtesy, so that the lodger kingdoms were "happy-chappy", and when they went back tothe motherland, they were dehorted by the ministers. The visitor rite in western Zhou and thespring and autumn period was greet rite broadly, included the throne rite of kingdom to KingZhou, the visit rite among the kingdoms and the greet rite among the scholar class and theother class. Comparing the guest rite with the visitor rite of the western Zhou and the springand autumn period, the character is: a) the guest rite stressed to the political system muchmore. The Tang dynasty granted Zhou and Sui as two queens, and granted Wei as3ke, whichcopied the zhou dynasty of "two King and three Ke" system, so it had the deep influence tothe later dynasty. b) the meaning of the guest rite and the visitor rite were equality. the rite of“three ke” to King zhou was not a minister to a king, the same as the lodger kingdom to thehost. The guest rite had equal special meaning and existed with the king subject rite thatdistinguished the high-low levels.Although the guest rite and the visitor rite were the way ofKing Zhou treating the guests, both didn’t affiliate each other, they cannot be classified to onecategory.
