Pauses in intepretation have been influencing and hindering the overall quality ofintepretation. To listeners, pause improperly, as in case of pause at a wrong segmentof a meaning-unit, or just a long silence, etc. not only causes difficulties tocomprehension of the original text, but also adds to the questions on intepretation’saccuracy, and consequently the credibility of the intepretation and even the intepreter. It does undermine the quality of the intepretation and build no confidence to theintepreters whatsoever. This thesis takes on a case-study model and tries to briefly analyze what pauses we, asintepreters or intepretation learners, run into everyday and where they possibly comefrom, and what techniques or approaches we can come up with to tackle this problem.
