The Causes And Strategies Of Improper Pauses In Consecutive Interpretation

With the acceleration of reform and opening up, China is having a closerrelationship with the whole world, and interpreting has also become acommunication way among different race and culture. The consecutive interpretationis now used in many occasions, such as heads of government meeting, pressconference, business meeting and so on. But there also comes many problems duringthe process, like improper pauses in interpretation. Frequent improper pauses willaffect the fluency of the target language, and cause difficulties in comprehension. Itwill also make the interpreters in the distrust situation, and build no confidence to theinterpreters themselves.With an interpreting experiment as a supplementary study, the author combinesthe subjects’ recording scripts with their memories; aims at finding out reasons forimproper pauses of learners in consecutive interpretation. And according to theexperimental results, the author puts forward related strategies as to minimizelearners’ improper pauses and enhance quality of target language.
