The Causes And Coping Strategies Of Improper Pauses In Arabic To Chinese Consecutive Interpreting

Fluency is an important criterion for evaluating the level of Consecutive Interpretation.In that sort of interpretation,pausing is generally noticed in the consecutive interpretation procedure.Pauses are divided into two forms,proper and improper pauses.The latter is considered one of the manifestations of an unsmooth performance and an interpretation product of a poor quality.This paper takes a mock conference of President El Sisi's opening speech of the World Youth Forum in 2017 as an example of an attempt to a consecutive interpretation from Arabic into Chinese languages in order to examine the manifestations of improper pauses and their origins and causes,alongside proposing solutions and techniques to address such issue.The aim of this research is to improve the efficiency and quality of Arabic-to-Chinese consecutive interpretation,in the hope that this research will have an enlightening role in the field from a practical point of view,and that it will promote the production of research related to improper pauses.
