Yuyangsannong is a work of miscellaneous drama, which is written by ShenZizheng, who, born in the city of Wujiang, is a dramatist living in the end of the MingDynasty. This paper focuses on analysing the artistic characteristics and reasons ofthis drama, as well as exploring acceptance and effects of the works of Shen Zizhengon the playlets of expressing anger in the Qing Dynasty.The paper contains four parts.The first part introduces the background of the author’s family, life experiencesand his main works.The second part gives a brief introduction of Yuyangsannong, and makes aconcrete analysis of its artistic characteristics, such as the style which is combinedperfectly with its content, the words which are quite proper and full of literary grace,the unique images which help to express unique feelings with marvellous persons andwonderland, constructing plots in order to show his own mind and release his gloom,which break through the esthetic tradition of the beauty of harmony.The third part analyses the reasons of the artistic characteristics of ShenZizheng’s miscellaneous dramas in these four aspects: the social background, theauthor’s talent and experiences, his own pursuit of the artistic characteristics ofmiscellaneous drama and the effect of the works of Xu Wei.The forth part analyses the acceptance of this drama, and its influence on thesubstance, theme, structure, plot and the like of the playlets expressing anger in theQing Dynasty.Through the analysis of his works, the artistic characteristics and influences ofYuguansannong become clearer and more precise. That helps to ensure its statue andvalue in the history of miscellaneous drama created during the Ming and QingDynasty. Meanwhile, by analysing the single dramatist and his works, this paper givesan indispensable complement to the case study of miscellaneous drama created duringthe Ming and Qing Dynasty.
