A Research To Cen Shen

Chinese classical document literature speciality Postgradute student:Li Houqiong Supervisor: Wu MingxianAbstract: Cen Shen is a famous poet in the Tang Dynasty. On the basis of his existing poems and historical documents, the author makes an exploration into Cen Shen's characteristics and poems. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part is the examination and correction of Cen Shen's days in Shu, Sichuan Province. Historical records can seldom be found about these days, and they are not what scholars have shown much attention. This part includes a study of the time and route for Cen Shen's entrance into Shu as well as his year of death and relationships with his friends in Shu. The author corrects some wrong views and puts forth several new viewpoints. The main characteristics of his poem creations is the second part of the essay. This part analyses about the main contents and artistic characteristics about Cen Shen's poem creations. The feature of Cen Shen's poem, "Upholding Artistry and Advocating landscape", is not only embodied in his border-area poems, but also in the whole poems through his life. Great achievements have been reached in his displaying landscape poems, like his border-area poems. Especially, his creation of Qiyan Gexing makes his poems outstanding with a unique artistic style.
