The thesis studied on the education in rural area in China during the period of theRevolution of1911. The study was carried out on the basis of the academic content offour famous education journals fro—World Education, Educational Journal, TheEastern Miscellany, The Chinese education, and adopted the methods of the literaturereview, comparative analysis and content analysis which are the essential studymethods. And the aim of the study was to mirror the realistic rural education situationin China during the Revolution of1911by analyzing these journals, which can beuseful to the development of the rural education in China nowadays.The rural education is the main clue when analyzing these four magazines.According to this clue, this thesis was consists of four parts.The first part made an overall summary of these four famous magazines. Thefocal point of this part is the analyzing the academic role of each magazine which wasthe comprehensive evaluation from the social policy, rural economy and thecountryside culture. This part narrated the feasibility of the whole study, and alsodemonstrated the emergency and the necessity of studying the rural education.The period lasting from the beginning of the20century to the outburst of theMay4th Campaign was special in modern times, not only because of the dynasty’schange, but also because in this period China went through a historical transition insocial pattern. It has been more than2100years since last social transition happened,and because of the time, the lost of the historic materials and the various forms of theChinese characters, it was hard to mirror the social life during the last transitionalperiod. While in the period of Revolution of1911, the media like journals andnewspapers had been the popular communicative forms, so the rural educationsituation can be traced back. China has always been a agricultural country, therefore,the study on the rural area education is necessary.The second part analyzed the reform of the rural area education in the process ofthe Revolution of1911from the perspective of these four educational journals. Theeducational policy, regulation, the development of the rural education theory, thepractice of educators and the grass-rooters’ viewpoint on the rural education duringthis period were the mainly discussed content, which can reflect the results of the rural education during that period.As for the rural educational policy and regulation, on the basis of the late QingDynasty along with the improvement of the social pattern and the education executiveadministration, the Min government made some education policy and regulationwhich combined the western education conception and traditional education belief.On the rural education theory, this thesis emphasis the compulsory education and therevision of the textbooks, and the educator Chen Ronggun was took as arepresentative to represent the educational. This thesis tries to acquire a whole view ofthe rural education from the perspective of the rural dwellers, which can give acomparatively real picture of rural education situation of that period time.The third part discussed and analyzed the characteristics of the rural education inthis period from two aspects to explore the conflicts happened during the changing ofthe sovereign, which can deduce the existing problem in the process of the educationmodernization.Rural Education of the Revolution of1911is different from the past, theopposition of traditional education and modern education, the coexistence of privateschool and new school, the learning of Confucian intellectuals and passionate youngpeople are all impacted on rural education. This article is explored the characteristicsof this period of rural education. I believe as a carrier of knowledge of education-textbooks and private teacher could be basically to clarify the characteristics of theRevolution.The fourth part focused on rural education in contemporary revelation of theRevolution. Starting from the aspects of the gap between the new elite and braincirculation to be able to draw meaningful revelation and favor for modern society andrural education.We studied the rural educational for the Revolution of1911is a guide for thecontemporary rural education. Rural education has no rules, we understood andmastered the different periods of education policy, content, and regulations, learnedessence and rejected the dross, in order to service for the modernization of education.The last section was a summary. Inductive nearly two decades of rural education inthe general situation of the Revolution of1911, and the macroeconomic impacted ofthe Chinese education.
