As the first growing environment for individual, family play an important role in itsmental and physical development. In the beginning, attachment was describe the emotionalconnection between infant and its mother who was take care of the infant and it is formeddepends on the quality of the mother’s custody. Parent attachment is one of the importantpredictor variables of one’s mental health status, it will affect the formation of infant’semotional, social behavior, personality characteristics and the people’s basic attitude(Bowlby,1973). Adolescence is a stage that one’s physical and psychological all developedfast, adolescents have a strong desire to get out of the control of their parents but on the otherhand they still need to keep a close relationship with their parents. At this stage, adolescentscome to develop their peer attachment with their friends. This study discusses the nature andcharacteristics of adolescents’ attachment, and also discusses the relationship of adolescents’attachment,coping style and depression. From that way, we try to reveal the mechanism ofhow attachment effects adolescents’ physical and mental health, so can we provide a scientificbasis to establish a more system attachment theory. In this study,365students from grade1and grade2of junior middle school and senior middle school are chosen as the subjects, andget data by the tools of Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA), Self-RatingDepression Scale (SDS) and Middle School Students’ Coping-Style Scale. The data ismanaged by SPSS16.0. The main contents are as follows:1.On the whole, adolescents’ attachment, coping style is generally positive andhealth,depressive symptoms are optimistic.2. Adolescents’ attachment t with mother is better than that with father’s andcompanion’s. There is differences between mother attachment and peer attachment in gender,father attachment has differences in family types. Adolescents with different attachment stylesin the coping style of problem solving, help-seeking dimension, depressive symptoms havesignificant differences. Adolescents’ coping style in the vent dimensions have significantdifferences in gender, problem solving dimension have significant difference in grade, fantasydimensions exist significant differences between family types. Adolescents’ depressivesymptoms exist significant differences in family types.3. The extent of coping style which can be predicted by parental and peer attachment isdifferent. Father attachment can predict problem solving and seeking help at the greatestextent, mother attachment follows. Peer attachment have the strongest predictive power toretreats and vent of coping style.
