With the development of the word economic globalization and constant deepening of reform and opening-up after China’s entry to the WTO, business activities is becoming increasingly frequent, making its translation an important part in these activies. The sentences and articles can only be correctly understood and translated only when the words, the basic unit of a language that can be used independently, are correctly understood and translated. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the words characteristics in business English and their translation methods. Words in business articles have their own characterics, such as the abundant use of technical terms, semi-technical terms and abbreviations, the inclination of the employment of nouns, the constant emergence of new words and so on. As for the translation of business articles, Liu Fa-gong proposed the principals of "faithfulness, exactness and consistency" as the translation criteria, among which "exactness "is particularly reflected in the choice of words. The choice of the exact word in the translation is based on the correct understanding of the original one. The choice of words is more than just finding the corresponding words from the dictionary. It demostrates the translators’professional knowledge and the deep understanding of the words in two languages. Only the correct translation of words based on their connotations can the equivalent shift in information and conception be guaranteed. Based on these criteria, the thesis carries on a further study on the translation approaches of words from the economic and trade articles from Yeeyan.com, and proposes literal translation, liberal translation and conversion as the major approaches in translation.
