| With the economic globalization and China's entry into WTO, FTE- Foreign Trade English is taking more and more important roles in our economic life. However, FTE is regarded as a branch of Business English, its academic study is not as common. The general translation theories, general Business English translation included, do not apply to FTE translation. This brings both theoretical and practical significance to FTE study.By a brief contrast between Business English and FTE, the author offers a detailed investigation on the criteria and model of FTE translation. She highlights the distinct features of FTE in lexicon, syntax and style as well as the resulting translation criteria and model. The criteria: "faithfulness", "exactness" and "customariness" are suggested, and a detailed explanation is also given. The model part attempts to introduce Roger T. Bell's theory into FTE translation, which in turn consists of two fundamental stages and other sub-stages.The thesis is accomplished on the basis of the available theories during the authors' two-year-study, and her own experience in foreign trade. It is in the hope that the superficial investigation may attract both the practical concerns of the working translators and the theoretical interests of applied linguists to further research. |
