With the ascendancy of economic globalization and increasingly frequent international communication and exchanges, international business activities are on the rise. As an indispensable part of business English, business interpreting plays an essential role in enhancing international business activities. Apart from the common features of interpreting, business interpreting has its own characteristics. Firstly, it follows the principle of maximum profits with strong purposes. Compared with other kinds of interpretation, business interpretation attaches more emphasis on maximizing the interests and exploring most efficient ways to achieve the purpose of the participants. Secondly, it involves fierce competition and complex situation. Besides, it’s difficult for interpreters to be totally impartial and fair during the process. However, due to the uncertainty of thinking and cognition, as well as randomness of spoken language itself, fuzzy language is widely used in daily communication. Because of its important functions, such as improving the efficiency and flexibility of expression, easing the tense relations, indicating attitude and safeguarding interests, and withholding information, fuzzy language is frequently used in business interpreting. In light of Skopestheorie, the thesis studies the fuzzy language in business interpreting with an aim to analyze some commonly used interpreting methods. From the perspective of Skopostheorie, interpreters are expected to adopt proper methods flexibly according to different situations.
