Language is the carrier of the culture, and culture is the connotation of thelanguage, hence, learning a language, to some extent, is to learn a national culture. Asbasic materials in language, words play an important role in recoding the rich andcolorful cultural information of a nation, and therefore, culturally-loaded word is thelanguage unit which mostly reflects the connotation of national culture. In teachingChinese as a foreign language, culturally-loaded word is the stress point and thedifficult point. Culturally-loaded word teaching can not only improve foreign students’Chinese communicative ability but also make them fully understand China’s longhistory and rich culture, and therefore much attention should be paid to the culturally-loaded word teaching.From cognitive linguistics, metaphor is not only a way of rhetoric but also acognitive tool and thinking way for human beings to recognize the world. This paperanalyzes the original metaphor types of cultural lexical meaning in perspective ofmetaphor and the internal mechanism between metaphoric cognition and culturallexical meaning production. Besides, the author tries to discuss the teaching methodsof culturally-loaded words in teaching Chinese as a foreign language in terms ofmetaphorical cognition.This paper includes five parts. The first part introduces the researchbackground、study objectives and methodology, and then elaborates the significanceof the subject. The second part defines the culturally-loaded words and cultural lexicalmeaning, and discusses the importance of cultural lexical meaning and its features. Thefourth part elaborates the metaphorical cognitive study of cultural lexical meaningfrom three aspects: metaphoric expressive of cultural lexical meaning、 originalmetaphoric types and the influence of cultural differences towards metaphoricalcognition. In the last part, the paper tries to find the new ways for culturally-loaded word teaching process by establishing the students’ and teachers’ metaphoricalawareness.
