| This is a translation project report on an excerpt from the book Research onthe Culture of the Bai Nationality,2007. Zhao Yinsong, the author, is former headof the Research Institute for Culture of the Bai Nationality. The book he edited isvery precious and important for the culture diversity, especially in the globalizationdevelopment. Besides, this book can provide readers from home and abroad ashowcase to understand the essence of the Bai nationality’s culture. A Glimpse atBai Culture and Folk Customs, the excerpt, was selected as the translation project.Metaphrase and free translation methods are adopted in this project. But the use offoreignization is most focused. This translation project consists of four parts: Partone is the introduction, including the project background, objectives andsignificance. Part two is mainly on the skopostheorie which is adopted in thisproject. The type of source text, its linguistic features and target readers areanalyzed. Part three covers the translation methods and difficulties in thistranslation project. The difficulties lie in the translation of proverbs, some ancientpoetry, special names of the Bai nationality for foods, festivals, music and so on.Examples are given to demonstrate the translation methods, which are discussed inlight of the skopostheorie. Part four summarizes the lessons, implication andunsolved problems in this translation project. |
