With the development of economic globalization, the knowledge in financial English plays a more important role in the international economy. For the staff in finance and the people interested in achieving long-term development in finance, it is necessary to acquire professional knowledge in financial English in order to achieve more room for career development. The quality of textbook of financial English is extremely significant for them, while the quality of E-C translation is also concerned by the learners. The author hopes that this paper will provide appropriate translation strategies and theoretical reference for textbook translation in financial English.Compared with researches on literary translation and practical translation, that is, the translation of such texts as advertisement, science and business, studies in finoncial translation in the form of textbook are relatively rare It is esnecilly so with translation criticism based on a specific case. The author translated parts of a textbook, namely Modern Financial Practices published by Economic and Scientific Press House, some10,000words in length, as E-C translation practice. The textbook has a Chinese version as the reference book for Financial English Certificate Test (FECT), so that a comparison will be realized.Based on the case study, the thesis will pick out problems in the translation practice, find out the leaks in translation strategies and put forward solutions through an analysis of the translation practice and a criticism of the translation in the light of the main theories of functionalist translation theory-text type and skopostheorie. The research will hopefully provide some important implications for textbook translation, translation quality control, the choice of translation strategies and self-improvement of the translator.
