With the development of globalization,communication between China and western countries is rapidly increasing,especially in the financial area.Each year,a great many financial materials are introduced to China and vice versa.A translator as a connection between two distinct languages and cultures is a key factor in the international financial communication.This practice report is based on the translation of a brochure of Mutual Funds from the e-book website called Free ebooks.The source text is characterized by impersonality,accuracy and concision,aiming at communicating financial knowledge objectively.How to ensure accuracy and readability is important for the translation of this source text.Based on Nida's functional equivalence theory,two translation skills of semantic extension and semantic variation were applied to achieve accuracy at the semantic level.And such skills as addition,negation,conversion,inversion and division were applied to make the target text smooth and natural to improve readability.The author of this report has realized that preparation for translating is a key factor in the translation process,not only including translation theories and skills,but also some related information about the translated text.In addition,translators should try their best to faithfully represent the content of the source text by using accurate vocabulary and appropriate translation skills.This practice has explored a practical way for finance English translation and provided experience for the future translation work.
