In recent years, NHK has shot and broadcast quite a number of Chinese theme documentaries. From the well-known Silk Road, the Great Yellow River, Forbidden City to the New Silk Road, Dynamic China that caused widespread repercussions in recent days. These quality good works, leave deep impression to the world audience, and also make the media of its kind in Europe and the United State catch up. New Silk Road is a large documentary series that NHK broadcast in2005. No matter from conception, production, or from the broadcast effect, this documentary represents the mature appearance of the NHK’s Chinese theme documentaries. In terms of narrative, this documentary is one of the most representative works of this period. Based on narrative theories, this dissertation made a comprehensive analysis of the Now Silk Road both from the micro and macro perspectives by adopting text narrative.Consistency of theme and unconventional, content of the story and and plot expression, combined with great history and little narrative, together constitute the content of the documentary narrative level; And the narrative elements, the use of flexible, narrative perspective, Narrative elements narrative point of view, narrative known as flexible use, constitutes a form of narrative level. When making their documentaries, NHK implants their own ideology and values, and describes the culture with de-localization and localization, that makes domestic audience accepted and recognized by their concept more easily.At the same time, the New Silk Road to provide a successful template to Chinese documentary, also has exposed some problems and difficulties of its own existence.
