This paper focuses on the Chinese people’s cultural magazine 《Today》, which appeared in the late1970s in China. Though the magazine 《Today》 appeared just after the end of China’s Cultural Revolution, it had been buried in the history of China for a long time since it disappeared. The history of the 《Today》 shows what kinds of difficulties young intellectuals in that period faced.《Today》 is not just a thing of the past plays a critical role as a connecting ring between the past and the present in Chinese literature. In this paper, I will find out not only the 《Today》’s value in literature but also what had played a key role in giving birth to the magazine. In studying 《Today》, we have to find out what was going on around the 《Today》 in that period. For example, that period was related to the "Up to the mountains and down to the countryside" movement and the democratization boom, which started after Tiananmen Square movement and the underground culture and civilian periodicals. These factors are related to the 《Today》 in direct or indirect ways. It means that if we really want to talk about 《Today》, we have to first understand the problems, such as "historical relation between 《Today》 and these factors","how the Jintian group of poets was born under what environment?"and "why did many poets feel the crisis about the period and society?". In Chapter1, I would like to find out how the young intellectuals behaved in the period starting the Red Guards to the liberty from ideology. If we sum up the period, it can be referred as the process of self recognition and freedom from fetters. In Section1, Chapter1, I analyzed the development of "Up to the mountains and own to the countryside" movement and its negative or positive effects. In Section2, I analyzed how the young group, who underwent the self realization, had acted and also analyzed the "underground salon" and "underground book reading boom". In this ection. I focused on "how the Western cultural works called as "poisonous plant" have effected on the young intellectuals". These works were classified as "yellow covered book" or "forbidden books". In Section3, I focused on the democratization movement, which finally caused the Tiananmen Square movement, and how this ultural environment caused the appearance and death of many new people’s literature publications. In other words, I would like to deal with the political and historical background of giving birth to 《Today》 in Chapter1.In Chapter2, I tried to find out the value in literature of the magazine 《Today》"Jiantian poet group" and their avant-garde in literature. I first tried to find out the relationship between the Western literature factors contained in the 《Today》 and "Jintian poet group" as critical factors and the Chinese works in literature. Here I mainly referred to the Ruins literature in German and "Group47" and "Croquis" aesthetics, which was often posted on the early days of 《Today》. Especially, Jintian poet group tried to indirect express their view of literature and value through the Croquis aesthetics. In Chapter2, I analyzed the representative poets of Jintian group, such as masterpiece of BeiDao, MangKe, ShiZhi. In Section3, I analyzed woman poet, ShuTing. I tried to find out the unique value such as woman poet in the 《Today》Finally, In Chapter3I tried to find out the outside activities the Jintian poet group had made. To find it out, I analyzed two poem presentation forums made by Jintian poet group in Section1. In Section2, I focused on the meetings of "Xingxinghuahui" and"Siyueyinghui". The critical person in Xingxinghuahui or "HuangRui",one of the promoters, who established the magazine 《Today》, played a critical role. In Section3, I analyzed the conflict between Jintian poet group and other groups by analyzing the important event in Chinese literature, which is now called "Obscure poetry". They can be classified into two poet groups including a poet group represented by AiQing and the third generation poet group derived from Jintian poet group. Though they have similar parts in literature, they have their own distinct characteristics and their own changes in ideology.
