The Influence Of Feng-shui Culture On The World (Chapter1) Translation Report

This is a translation project report on The Influence of Feng-shui on theWorld by professor Yu Xixian, of which Chapter1Approach to Feng-shui. Thisbook starts with the basic information of Chinese Feng-shui and introduces theconditions and enfluence of fengshui on different countries and regions. ProfessorYu Xixian listed novel examples of each case with concise and comprehensiveexplanation. From the perspective of Functional equivalence Theory, the translatortakes in account the special translation of Feng-shui terms and free to maintain therich characteristic of the Feng-shui and folklore culture. From the perspective oflinguistics and the nature of translation, Eugene A Nida put forward the famousdynamic equivalence" and functional equivalence translation theory, i.e.Equivalence to standardize the conversion between the source language and thetarget language and reduce differences. The author has adopted several commontranslation methods, namely, literal translation，free translation, literal translationand annotation, amplification and omission and conversion to meet the specialcharacteristic of Feng-shui culture. The author holds the view that Functionalequivalence Theory is very significant to the Feng-shui culture translation practice.It is good for the translator of adopting translation strategies and flexibly choosingto improve the quality of Feng-shui translation. From the development ofFeng-shui translation practice, western readers can get a better understanding ofFeng-shui and improve the culture communication between the East and West.
