This is a translation project report on Translation as a Profession (Chapter6The Die Is Cast!) by Daniel Gouadec. The source text mainly introduces the fourlinks of becoming a professional translator: choosing a particular domain of activity,training to be a translator, choosing a professional status and starting out in theprofession. Also, some likely schemes and relative items are given in the source text.The main contents of this translation project can be divided into four parts. Part One istranslation project report description, including project background, objectives,significance and the structure of the report. Part Two is the background of the sourcetext, including the introduction to the author, the edition, main contents and theanalysis on the source text. Part Three discusses the translation difficulties and theadopted translation methods. During the translation process, in order to deal with themeanings of words, long sentences and the information delivered from the source text,the adopted methods are mainly literal translation, amplification, omission, divisionand other techniques based on the Functional Equivalence Theory. Part Fourconcludes the inspiration, lessons and experience obtained from this project as well assome unsolved problems.
