Translation Report For Translation In Global News (Chapter One)

This is a translation report for “Power, Language and Translation”, Chapter1ofTranslation in Global News written by Esperan a Bielsa and Susan Bassnett. Basedon the brief introduction of the translation project and the background of the source,this report conducts further investigations about the difficulties and their approachesduring translating under the guidance of Newmark’ s techniques for informative texts.This report holds the view that translators should follow the translation principle of“authenticity comes first” and apply the translation skills of splitting, assembling,transformation of part of speech and amplification when dealing with the informativetexts. In particular when handling the long sentences, translators should take intoaccount the context of the sources, endeavoring to enable the target texts faithful,smooth, fluent and natural in accordance with the expressions of target languages.Meanwhile, translators should give consideration to the stylistic traits of the source,attempting to make the style of the target text coincide with that of the source text;comprehend and translate the translation theories mentioned in the source accurately.
