Investigation And Research Of Historical Bridges In Pearl River Delta

Historical bridge, one of the key types of ancient architecture in China, is a significant part of Architecture, Science and Technology History and Art History. It combines the value of the heritage history. Art and Science, whose scientific and technical components are more outstanding than splendid palaces, altars and temples. Historical bridge reflects the great achievements of science and technology, art and culture in human developing process, which is a precious cultural heritage. Before the reform and opening up,since China’s overall socio-economic development is relatively backward, there is a huge number of historical bridges left in the vast rural areas. However, after the reform and opening up, with influence of socio-economic development as well as people’s education, historical bridges are massively removed in the process of Old City Transformation and Rural Urbanization Movement, as a result of which a large number of historical old bridges were ruined in a completely unknown case, which became one of the distressing regrets of historical bridge history in our country. Pearl River Delta region is the forefront of Guangdong’s reform and opening up,whose economic development, especially its infrastructure development, dominates a leading level in the nation.However, at the same time, in terms of destruction of historic buildings, it has also become one of the fastest destroying regions in the country.In the1930s of last century, with the fact that the works of studying historical Chinese bridges continuously emerged,(he number of published papers also increased, but it did not form a data storage system yet. With further research, collection of original documents, organization, summary, and conclusion became necessary links. In this paper, based on a large number of field researches and combined with the current domestic and international literature, it investigates and researches the historical bridges of Pearl River Delta Region from the existing historical bridges situation in the Pearl River Delta Region, so as to provide information of protection planning for the future reference.
