Art Analysis Of Buddhism Statues In Northern Wei Dynasty In Shandong Province

After Buddhism was introduced into China, Buddhist Art also got development, and formed in various local characteristics of sculpture styles and patterns in its spreading places, thus enriched the connotations of the Chinese Multinational Buddhist Art, which became an important part of the National Art. It was a special historical period in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, when Multinational Civilizations had been blended in collision, and the Social Order had been restructured, also it was an important stage of development for Chinese Buddhism.Shandong was one of the important regions for Northern Buddhist Activities, there still reserves many Buddhist Relics of Northern Wei and Northern Qi Dynasties, such as statues, sculptured sutras and temples. Particularly in Longxing Temple of Qingzhou, the excavated statues here present various types with huge quantity, exquisite carving technology, and wealthy colour decorations, which could be regarded as rarely art treasures. This batch of the excavated statues provide abundant materials for our research in Chinese Buddhist Art.In this article, we use the limited Statue-Signatures of Longxing Temple in Qingzhou as a breakthrough point, considering the image features, referring to the developing situation of the sculptural subject around Qingzhou, Shandong, even Northern Chinese, in order to analyse the ubject of statue in Longxing Temple.Combining to the spread situation of local Buddhism, the social background and characteristics of local culture, the full text aims to research the change track of the Buddhist Statues of Northern Wei Dynasty in Shandong Province, discuss the origin and development of these modelling styles, and find more information behind the statues with the method of typology.
