The purpose of this dissertation is to discuss the connection between Contemprary Zhuang Literature of Guang Xi and the Buluotuo Culture, and to analyze the impacts of Buluotuo culture has on this regional literature.The introduction states the dissertation objective and briefs research results from existing studies. The author has put the focus, on the Contemporary Zhuang literature of Guang Xi, which are the writing works by Zhuang writers of Guang Xi from the late20th Century, i.e, after the Establishment of PRC in1949. Like other Chinese regional culture, the Bulutuo has its own myths history, poetry patterns, music style and memorial ceremony events, which have made it the China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. This culture transmits in various ways like legendry stories, ancient music and poetries. The author will review current studies and explain the meanings of further discussion in this area. As a siritual treasure of Zhuang minority, Buluotuo has many topics are worth discussing, and the author would expect to present the perspectives from a local nation.Chapter1briefly introduces the history of Buluotuo culture including its origins, rheology, transmission and characters. Buluotuo culture is originally founded by the residents of Xi’ou and Lac Viet in the Lingnan Region in Southern China. As a living condition culture, Buluotuo has its propagating field and inheritors, writings in prose and verse forms, hereditary religious beliefs and sacrificial rites, these are the sources of Zhuang ethics’ traditions. Buluotuo culture can be found not only in the Red River area, Youjiang River, Honghe River Valley where most Zhuang people live, but are also in Qiannan area where Buyi and Aquatic minority communities habitat. Overseas like Vietnam, Burma and Thailand also have similar culture features. This chapter will have a general introduction of Buluotuo culture covering the aspects of its legendry tales, the Epic "Buluotuo" and the religious beliefs-Mo. Buluotuo culture plays an essential role in the Zhuang community development. It has huge impact on Zhuang people’s life, which is also the way how the Zhuang literature being influenced.Chapter two displays the examples of how Buluotuo culture affects contemporary Zhuang literature of Guang Xi by going through three different period of time in history. First period is in1960s,17years after new government founded, literature has changed a lot under certain social conditions, Zhuang literature work has been seen presenting the Buluotuo culture in a different way. The second period is the time after the Cultural Revolution, when the upsurge of Root-seeking Literature swept the country; literature works in this time illustrate a new image of Buluotuo culture. Thirdly is the time after the Root-seeking wave, Zhuang literature of Guang Xi research continues, it tends to reveal more Buluotuo culture to the reader, meanwhile maintain the balance of tradition and innovation of literature aesthetics.Chapter three illustrates how the Buluotuo culture affects the Zhuang literature of Guang Xi from the perspective of literature aesthetics, emotions and logic patterns. Minority group of people’s life experience has been brought into the art works effectively. And the diversity of traditions has inspired writers’creativeness.The fourth chapter states Buluotuo culture has impacts on the topic choice and writing material of Contemporary Zhuang literature of Guang Xi. Nationalism and patriotism are very important themes within the literature works, which, to a large extend, is originally motivated by the Buluotuo spirit.Chapter five discusses how Buluotuo culture affects the writing style of contemporary Zhuang writers of Guang Xi. Take Mr Qilin Wei for example, his writing is rigid-flexible and romantic, which contains the values of local community culture. Many Zhuang novelists have showed the tendency of pursuing poetic and prose in their art works. Poetic and prose is not a exclusively art type belong to Zhuang writers of Guang Xi, they absorb and promot this traditional aesthetics from the regional culture, and forges a beautiful, peaceful and reserved writing style. The image of Ox appears often in Zhuang literature of Guang Xi, which presents a unique perspective of writing style.Last, discusses the impacts of different Buluotuo cultural figures have on Zhuang literature of Guang Xi. Images in Zhuang written of Guang Xi works have shown out typical national characters, such as the images of persistent singer, are all were marked as Bulutuo cultural sprit. At the end is a sum up of above mentioned opinions and conclude the influences of Buluotuo culture.
