A Research Report On The Translation Of A Story Of Old Houses

Literary translation is different from other kinds of translation. During the process ofturning one language into another, how to express the connotation and reproduce the style is ahighlight to distinguish it from others. Based on Chinese-English translation of A Story of OldHouses by Shi Tiesheng, this research report is an initial attempt at translating Chineseliterary work. The report consists of three main parts. In the first part, the report brieflyintroduces the author Shi Tiesheng, and analyzes content, background and characteristics ofthe text A Story of Old Houses. The second part, which is the essence of the report, mainlydiscusses problems met in the translating process at the level of expressions with Chinesecharacteristics, figures of speech, Beijing dialect and idioms, then gives some relatedtranslation strategies and skills. The third part is a systematic summary on the fulfillment ofthe translation task.
