Spatial Narrative Of Le Clezio’s Novels

J. M. G. Le Clezio received the Nobel Prize in literature in2008. After that, Horace Ndale, the secretary-General of Swedish Academy said:"his works have the global feature. He is a Frenchman indeed, but he is mainly a traveler, a citizen of the world and a Nomaden." The feature of globalization is embedded in that almost all his works were related to many different countries and areas, in other words, almost all his works were accomplished in different spaces, therefor,"Spatiality" become a remarkable feature of Le Clezio’s works.The thesis chooses seven novels of Le Clezio as research subjects to discover the "Spatiality" of the works and explore the implication of the space.The first chapter mainly discusses the form of the works’narrative space. With Le Clezio’s personal experience, we can find there are there spatial forms in his works:the reality space of opposites; the right and political space; complex psychological space.The second chapter mainly analyzes the internal space awareness from the form of the complex narrative space. Spatial experience reflected the individual understanding and life experience from the objective material space. Different material space will produce different subjective spatial experience. Le Clezio devoted his life to travel around the world, his life experience reflected in the hero of the works. They left their homes, also lost their identity. In the journey of the travel, Le Clezio had a strong interest in exotic civilization, therefor, pay attention to the exotic civilization has become an important feature of Le Clezio’s works.The third chapter analyzes the spatial narrative mode fo Le Clezio’s works. Le Clezio’s spatial awareness is accurately conveyed by the narrative mode. The traditional time and space orders in traditional novel are abandoned by the author. In order to convey his spatial experience accurately, he chooses the different space which can precisely embody his feelings, and rests the development and change of the story on the transformation of the spce, and take the special narrative mode convey his spatial awareness. The thesis chooses seven novels of Le Clezio as research subjects, take the spatial narrative criticism as the theoretical foundation, read the text carefully, research the spatial problem of the works under the background of Le Clezio’s life. The purpose of the thesis is to unlock and explain the inherent meaning and academic value of the works from a brand-new perspective.
