There is enormous room for application of large-span complex structures in Chinese large-scale public buildings, however, a lot of new mechanical and technical problems are met while their final structures are taken shape in structure construction. The research of imitation and monitoring in building construction possesses theoretical and high project practical significance to realize the safe course of construction and design idea of finished structures for large-span complex structures. Based on the large-span complex structure of Changsha concert hall, this paper presents the following work:(1) The MIDAS’software was adopted to establish a finite element calculation model of the left part of the superstructure of the concert hall. Based on the principles of minimum internal force and deformation of this structure, economical cost and good operability to the spot, made use of the technology of "living" and "dead" of an element, selected different "routes" and "time", its structure construction plan was optimized by analysis of the finite element imitation model.(2) Based on the optimized structure construction plan, the course of the structure construction was divided into37construction phases. Made use of the technology of "living" and "dead" of an element, after37construction phases of the left part of the concert hall superstructure were detailedly imitated by the finite element imitation model, key components, their positions and monitoring content of the sturucture construction and health monitoring of the left part of the concert hall were proposed.(3) Based on the mechanical analysis of the construction course of the left part of this large-span complex superstructure of the concert hall by a finite element model, their results of mechanical performance were analyzed earnestly. Based on the simple, economical and effective principle, considered the structure characteristic and actual condition of structure construction, the content, method and period of time of this structure construction of the left part of the superstruction of the concert hall were determined. After a structure geometry control network was established, and measure points of this structure construction were determined and buried, the integrated structure construction monitoring system of the left part of the superstructure of the concert hall was made.(4) Made use of the structure construction monitoring system of the left part of the superstructure of the concert hall, it spent about two years to monitor the course of the structure construction of the left part of the concert hall, which has ensured a safe course of the main structure construction of the left part of the concert hall and accumulated precious data and experience of large-span complex structure construction monitoring.(5) The results of analysis of finite element imitation model were compared to the results of structure construction monitoring, which indicated that there are some limitations of analysis of finite element imitation model in large-span complex structures, and contract, creep and temperature of concrete should be considered in analysis of a finite element calculation model. The safety of finished main structure of the left part of the superstructure of the concert hall was evaluated, and some measure to add structure reliability was proposed.
