Firstly, the development and research of the gatling gun at home and abroad are introduced in this paper;then, the operational principle and the key technology of the gatling gun are analyzed.By using SolidWorks, the three-dimensional solid model of gatling gun has been established.Based on multi-body system dynamics and virtual prototyping technology, dynamic simulation of the gatling gun on the firing process is done by Adams. By analyzing the kinetic characteristics of automatic mechanism and the recoil force on the two different firing rate of gatling gun, the abrupt change of contact force between the bolt body and the curved slot and the law of influence of the firing rate on the recoil force are studied respectively. By analyzing the law of influence of the buffer spring stiffness on the maximum recoil force and the maximum recoil displacement of the gatling gun, the design method of the buffer spring to avoid resonance of the gatling gun is obtained.Based on FEM and the modal analysis theory, the first10modes of the gun mount-gun and the gun mount are obtained respectively by using MSC.Patran/Nastran, to make sure the gatling gun and its gun mount will not occur resonance and the weapon system fires stably. Then, the FEA on the strength and stiffness of the gun mount is done, to make sure that the gun mount is strong enough for firing.The research presented in this paper possesses significance of theoretical direction and an important reference value to the R&D of current gatling weapons.
