The development and research of the gatling weapon at home and abroad are introduced in this paper briefly; Combined with a certain type of three 12.7mm gatling gun, analysis of the structure and principle of automatic cycle of the gatling weapon have been done.Based on the theories of classical interior ballistics and autoweapon gas dynamics, a mathematics model of the interior ballistics and after-effect period of gatling gun firing process has been established, then we get the variation of pressure chamber by calculating program written by Visualbasic language.By using analysis of multi-body system dynamics and virtual prototyping technology, we create rigid-flexible coupling dynamic model of gatling gun in Adams; And we add the loads and constraints reasonably, according to the structure and movement principle of machine guns. By Simulation, we obtain the motion curves of the gatling gun, and analyze the effect that the system parameters have on the system characteristics, such as the stiffness, damping, preload of buffer device, the cyclic rate of fire, the clearance of curved slot and the weight ratio of automation. Compared with the system performance of the original scheme, we obtain an improved scheme.Based on the principle of the finite element theory and the structural condition of the blocking mechanism of Gatling gun, we create the finite element model and add the loads and constraints reasonably in Abaqus:Analyze the dynamic stress distribution of the blocking mechanism during impact, and the result shows that the strength of blocking mechanism is enough. The study of the gatling gun in this paper are significant importance for shortening the development cycle and enhancing the design quality.
