As a focus of the grammatical study of modern Chinese grammar and hotspot ofacademic research, the researches on location words and its relevant issues have beenincreasing paid attention to. Amount of locative words is not very much in language, butmost of them developed their sameness (senses of words). Many of these sameness losttheir locative meaning. And especially the most common location words, which havepolysemy prominent phenomenon and cause great difficulties to language study. Thisarticle mainly discusses the word "Shang", which is very often used, has the typicalmodel of research. Practically the research of "Shang" has a long history, and the macrostudies of locative or directional verb have addressed this issue. For example, ShuxiangLv’ s《An preliminary investigation on the usage of localizers》, which discussed thisquestion occasionally and drawn some conclusion, but limited to one etymology or dealtwith particular aspect of usage. On the other hand,‘Shang’ has different parts of speech.The current studies focus on common etymology, locative and verb., so it was not deepenough. However, adverb of Shang is rarely talked about.The article attempts toanalyze the ‘Shang’ usages form the whole. Corpora analysis is used tocomprehensively understand the word meaning, which analyzed in both diachronic andsynchronic perspectives. To study the internal connections and grammatical structuresbetween each meaning item of "Shang" is significant for the Chinese learning andcomputer Chinese information disposal.
