Zuozhuan, Military Class One-syllable Content Words Synonym Research

Zuo Commentary is one of the Confucian classics, and it’s the most famous one among the three of Spring and Autumn Annals. As an important historical classic of China’s Spring and Autumn Period, Zuo Commentary got very good achievements in our history prose. It has a large vocabulary and vivid expressions, and reflects the richness of ancient Chinese vocabulary. Thus it is precious material for the study of ancient Chinese vocabulary. This paper choose the single syllable notional synonyms describing wars in Zuo Commentary as the research object, and find out39groups of typical syllable notional synonyms describing wars by overreading, retrieving and organizing the original of Zuo Commentary. These synonyms include verbs and nouns. First record the number of times every word appears in some of the typical single syllable notional synonymous, documented specifically the righteousness included and the common righteousness in each set. And then analyze the referents, syntactic function and emotional color of each group of synonyms. Finally, summarize the applied features of single syllable notional synonyms describing wars in Zuo Commentary.
