“Pondering over Aesthetic Objects and Catching their Basic Truths” isan aesthetic proposition made by Jin Hao, a well-known landscapepainter during the Five Dynasties, in BiFa-Ji, since which, the value of“truth” was firstly elucidated in the aesthetical history of Chinese painting.Actually, if explored the origin, the proposition by Jin Hao was imbuedwith the same spirit from the pre-Qin aesthetical thoughts of Chuang-Tzu.The paper begins with the illustration of the theoretical origin of “truth”in the aesthetical history of Chinese painting and diachronic interpretationof the generation of “truth” from various dimensions, which will draw anentire reflection from the angle of aesthetics. Thereafter, referring to thehistory of Chinese painting, the paper analyzes the development of theaesthetic variants of “truth” at different times in a complete and thoroughway. At last, the thesis proposes the enlightenment brought by the valueof “truth” on the basis of the analysis of the tough situation faced up withthe modern arts—aesthetic appreciation is not the artists’ focus anymore, because to some extent,“truth” weighs much more than “beauty” in themodern arts. We hold the view that “truth”, which enjoys a long historyand transcendent tendency, is a universal and external value and it willbecome the focus of multivariant values of modern arts. |
