Originating from the United States,the pedagogy of Performed Culture was researched and developed by Professor Galal Walker from Ohio State University. After years of practice in Chinese and Japanese programs, this pedagogy has yielded remarkable achievements.Performed Culture places emphasis on the concept of culture, which not only refers to traditional culture, but also how people behave under specific circumstances in a specific culture. The students "experience" the target culture inside and outside the classroom, at the same time repeatedly "practice" what they have learned in the classroom context and real context. The "performance" discussed in this thesis is actually the combination of "experience" and "practice".The ultimate goal of this pedagogy is training the students to conduct commnication tith decency.After participating in the OSU summer program in Qingdao, the content of the program and the performance of the students impress us a lot. As a result, we began to think about introducing this pedagogy into mainland classrooms.Through carefully analyzing the curriculum provision and teaching ideas,we chose one class of elementary level students in SISU as the subjects, adapted the pedagogy according to the practical situations and came up with a complete scheme. The practice spanned a whole semester. In this thesis, we select one representative lesson as an example, introduce the class activities in detail,record the reaction of students and sum up the valuable experience. In the final exam, we used oral interview, which coordinates with the pedagogy of performed culture, as the form of oral test, in order to check the teaching effects.The answers of the students are recorded and analyzed in this article.
