Social anxiety refers to the different level of over-anxiety when a person faces orsupposes to face one or more social situations and is afraid of being scrutinized orevaluated on the self-assumption that all the evaluations are negative. Social anxietyis usually accompanied by avoidance behaviors and the highest level of social anxietyis called social phobia disorder.The sandplay method consists of the child, or adult client making whatever he orshe feels like building such as the “inner world,” or psyche, personal growthexperience with trauma or some unfinished life events with a wide assortment ofminiature figures in a tray of sand in the presence of a trained professional. Through asafe and supportive process they are able to explore their world using a sandtray and acollection of miniatures. Accessing hidden or previously unexplored areas is oftenpossible using this expressive and creative way of working.This paper discusses the effects of the sandplay method on social anxiety ofmiddle school students, and at the same time the initial sandplays of experimentalgroups, control groups and non-socially-anxious groups and the ending sandplays ofexperimental groups and control groups were compared with each other in threedimensions: sandplay name, sandplay subject matter and self-image.This study selected36middle school students with social anxiety as subjects,took One group Pre-test, Post-test as the experimental design, and examined theeffects of treatment both from the aspects of quantity and quality of the sandplaytherapy. In the aspect of quantitative research, we took The Social Avoidance andDistress Scale (SADS) to test the level of social anxiety before applying theexperimental treatment and then measuring after to examine the effects of the seriesof sandplay trerapy. In the aspect of Qualitative research, we mainly analyzed thetransformation characteristics of social anxiety among middle school students in theprocess of sandplay therapy based on the four dimensions of ending sandplays of theexperimental groups: sand moving, openness in the upper right or middle part of the sandplays, people miniatures and communication state and the total number of theminiature figures.Conclusion:1.A series of sandplays can cure the social anxiety among middle schoolstudents;2.There are several characteristics in the course of sandplay transformationamong middle school students;1) Students with social anxiety can make good use of sand during the course oftreatment and have quite a good communication of energy;2)The sandplay pictures of Students with social anxiety during the course oftransformation show more openness in the upper right or middle part;3) The sandplay pictures of Students with social anxiety during the course oftransformation show more people miniatures and communication;4) he transformation of social anxiety secondary school students named in thesand table sand table, the topic of self image and a high degree of consistency in threedimensions.
