Story And His Story

As an important writer in the contemporary literary world of Taiwan, Luo Yijun is an excellent storyteller and has built a maze of stories with a number of works. This thesis takes "storyteller" as the key point of view, extending to the literary world of Luo Yijun and finally sorts out a logical skeleton with regard to "story"In the first part of this thesis I summarize the subjects and main contents of stories in Luo Yijun’s works. After discussing each subject-"father and son","the identity dilemma" and "space-time and memory", I also take these three subjects as a whole and analyze the separate and connection of them to sketch out this giant maze of stories. In the second part, I generalize Luo Yijun’s storytelling strategy-"blurring boundaries" and then discuss the stories, their art forms, the "private novel" skills as well as the language system in detail to solve the question of "how to tell the stories" In the third part, I continue the last two parts to further explore two questions of "why telling these stories" and "why telling stories in this way". Moreover I analyze Luo Yijun’s personal experience and the social background to dig the deeper meanings of Luo Yijun’s works. Meanwhile, in this part I also take Huang Jinshu as an example to illustrate the influence of Luo Yijun and his works and bring Luo Yijun into the background of contemporary literature in Taiwan, and finally complete the systematic research from the point to surface. In the conclusion part, I take the personal experience of talking with Luo Yijun as clues to present the perceptual knowledge about Luo Yijun, which in my expectation will make the thesis more complete and comprehensive.
