Students Autonomous Learning Strategies In Second Language Environment Survey

The concept of learning strategy has been gradually explored and introduced to linguistic teaching, since the1970s. Specially, with development of cognitivism learning theory in the foreign language teaching, the study of learners’ cognitive process arouses many scholars’ interest. In the process, people have realized learning strategy playing an important role in the process of independent leaning deeply, by degree. But till today, it is not common that the research of overseas students’ language learning strategy, which is based on the second language environment.This article is based on the learning strategy theory of Oxford (1990) and its language learning strategy questionnaire (SILL), and then designed another questionnaire aim at the actual situation of independent learning. For overseas students’ independent learning and providing some references to Japanese language education, this investigation aimed at making clear about the use situation of overseas students’ learning strategy in the second language environment, and took72Chinese students, who registered in OKAYAMA University and had senior level of Japanese.Using SPSS17.0software to analysis questionnaire’s data, we have had a better understanding of the whole strategy using situation of Chinese students in Japan. And we used part of pasted J‐TEST paper to make a simple and easy Japanese test questionnaire, comparing the differences of using learning strategy between groups of high scores and low scores. In the past research results, we could find that the better learners prefer to apply different learning strategy.The survey result that according to a series learning strategies of Oxford’s reveals, excellent students more prefer to use metacognition strategy. However, the survey result of this article is different from the past: the whole overseas students prefer to use compensation strategy often. Among these students, the high scores students much more prefer to use cognition strategy and compensation strategy, the low scores students more like to use memory strategy frequently. And, there is19items of learning strategy appearing obvious difference, between groups of high scores and low scores.However, because of the limitations of project planning and survey objects, the results of this article still need further discussing. basing on enlarging the survey scales, it is necessary to further revise the survey items, and research the excellent language learners’ strategy more deeply.
