In recent years, the Ministry of Education of Hungary has paid more and more attention to the teaching and promotion of local Chinese under the background of “Chinese fever” and the “One Belt and One Road” policy. On the one hand, the number of Hungarian students who are learning Chinese has been increasing year by year, but on the other hand, their Chinese skill is relatively considerate in low level. There are many aspects that affect their learning efficiency. They are not only caused by teaching efficiency, but also the learner's own learning methods and learning strategies. Therefore, this research uses a combination of quantitative research and qualitative research together.Through questionnaires and case studies, this research analyzes the use of learning strategies by Chinese learners at the Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged,Hungary.Based on 60 sets of questionnaires and the interviews of two case studies, this research analyzes the Chinese learners' learning strategies in the non-target language environment of the Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged,Hungary,as well as the learner's gender, the relevance of age,Chinese language learning duration and Chinese language proficiency to the Chinese language learning strategies.Through the statistics and analysis of data, the following conclusions are drawn:Firstly, the most commonly used and the least commonly used learning strategies: the most commonly used learning strategies of Chinese learners from Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged are compensation strategies and metacognitive strategies. The least common ones are cognitive strategies and emotional strategies.Secondly, among the four influencing factors of age, gender, learning duration and learning time, learning duration and learning level are significantly related to learning strategies.Learning durations reflected in cognitive strategies, affective strategies and social strategies. In terms of the level of Chinese,it is significantly related to compensation strategies and metacognitive strategies.Thirdly,in the case study, both two participants could use frequently-accepted learning strategies. They are all excellent Chinese learners, but they all have their owncharacteristics in using learning strategies. The learning strategies YJ chose tends to be biased towards compensation strategies and metacognitive strategies.NM tends to be more social strategies and metacognitive strategies. However,"more communications with Chinese friends" is a strategy that they expect or have used, and in a non-targeted environment, this strategy also provides them with new ways to have more opportunities for practice. Finally, based on the conclusions of the research,a method of teaching improvement was proposed.Through the improvement of teaching methods, students can be guided to use reasonable and correct learning strategies according to specific circumstances. The improvement of learning after teaching can be used as a further study.
