As learning Chinese is growing worldwide and the cultural and educational communication between China and other countries is also increasing, there have been more and more foreign in-country Chinese programs in China. Under such circumstances, it becomes very important to study these advanced programs. The teaching of Chinese in the United States is among the best in the world, of which the AGE program is a representative. The AGE Pattern absorbed the advantages of a lot of other programs but at the same time maintains its own characteristics, reflecting the mainstream teaching theories, management and evaluation methods of the Chinese teaching community in America. Thus it is very important for us to study this Pattern and learn from it. Meanwhile, the current situation of teaching Chinese within domestic universities and overseas Confucius Institutes is not very satisfactory. Different teachers teach in a distinct way and without a theory, which is not conducive to the further development of Chinese teaching in the long term and thus should be improved. This paper thoroughly studies the teaching pattern of the AGE program, introducing its teaching theories, goals and evaluation methods, among others. It discusses its principles and concludes its teaching process. The author also used some of the AGE methods during his teaching practices in the Confucius Institute at the University of Leon in Spain, and conducted a research of it, demonstrating the possibility of applying the AGE Pattern in a foreign context. |
