Nowadays, Confucius institute plays an important role in Chinese culture "going out"strategy as well as Chinese language spreading. With the rapid development of the Chineseteaching in Confucius institute over the world, how to select a suitable textbook became moreand more important.Since different Confucius institute with different cultures, differentlanguage background, their demand for textbooks will be different too.Of course, with thedevelopment of Chinese education, the teaching material research has enriched constantly,some of those teaching material were also written for overseas learners. However, few studyof the Latin-American Chinese textbooks no less than Peru. In September2011to September2012I was working in Peru’s largest Confucius institute: the Confucius Institute of PeruCatholic University. So I had the opportunity to learn the Chinese teaching situation in Peruand the usage of the two Chinese textbook The New Practical Chinese Textbook and ChineseToday in the Confucius institute of the Peru Catholic University. According to Peru’s nationalconditions, education background, and the actual situation of students learning Chinese, theauthor analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of these two books, in order to find out themost suitable Chinese textbooks for the Confucius Institute of Peru Catholic University.The first chapter of this paper includes the reason for choosing this topicthe research object, research methods, research significance, and previous studies in thisaspect. The second part is mainly analyzed the two selected textbooks from the followingaspect: the characteristics of redacting,the text, new words and practice etc. Combined theresearch in the second part with the characteristics of students in Peru,in the third part theauthor summed up that The New Practical Chinese Textbook is more suitable for the Chineseteaching in the Confucius Institute of Peru Catholic University. in this part,the author alsolisted the merits and demerits of the two textbooks so as to provide help for Chinese teachingmaterial researchers. It also will be a reference for the future researchers to write theLatin-American specific or Peru specific Chinese teaching materials.Because the teaching of Chinese just starts in Latin America, the Chinese teachingmaterials for Latin American students are very few, and the research is also very few. As aresult, the opinions and researches in this paper inevitably have imperfections, and the writerhopes that it can be better in the following researches.
