This thesis is a case study for a Chinese language textbook for foreigners. Main problems to be studied:What is a real country specific textbook of Chinese? In recent years, the developments of country specific text books has grown, textbooks on Chinese language no longer only have footnotes translations in English and Korean. Nevertheless, it is not enough to simply add more translating language to the textbooks. The author believes that a real country specific textbook needs to be scientifically arranged to incorporate language comparison. The key to a successful country specific textbook is to be purposeful, applicable, scientific and fun.Why should the teaching of pronunciation be valued? The specific aspects of a country specific textbook include pronunciation, grammar, and culture study. Pronunciation is the vehicle of a language, and its importance is self evident. However, in a long time, TCSL places more emphasis in teaching grammar, this is why the author is very interested in the teaching of pronunciations. In addition, the difficulties in pronunciations of a foreign language can be traced back to the speakers'mother tongue. Therefore, a textbook that makes comparisons between Chinese and the learners'native language is a country specific textbook which has more advantages. This is the value of the research topic presented in this thesis. Detailed explanation of these two questions can be found in the first two chapters. How is the comparison of the Chinese and German phonology? The contrastive study of Chinese and German gives much emphasis to words and grammar, while there lacks an authoritative conclusion on phonology for reference. Therefore the author works hard on comparing the pronunciation of Chinese and German standard speech in chapter three. What kind of evaluation methods apply to country specific textbooks? In chapter four, the author thinks out a way that balances key points and difficult ones, thus it is relatively comprehensive and reliable. This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is an introduction which establishes the study subjects. It summarizes the teaching materials for Chinese languag, (especially country specific Chinese teaching materials), the research studies on Chinese-German pronunciation comparison. It also describes the significance and uniqueness of this thesis. The second chapter focuses on critical review. It establishes specific aspects of country specific Chinese teaching materials, introduces in details the subjects of study and the research methods of this thesis. This chapter sets a theoretical basis for the entire thesis. The third chapter conducts a systematic comparison on the consonants, vowels, tones, syllables, streaming of words of Chinese and German, the main purpose of which is to find the difficulties for German students when they study Chinese. The fourth chapter reviews the pronunciation portion of "Neues Praktisches Chinesisch" based on "International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education" and the comparison from last chapter on German-Chinese pronunciations. This chapter also made suggestions on what improvements could be made.
