Biological diversity around the world is expected to come under increasingstress on account of climate change. The effects of climate change on speciesand ecosystems have been documented recently, and in the future climatechange is expected to have increasingly important impacts. Currentinternational biodiversity conservation regimes were, however, not createdwith climate change in mind and are likely to fall short of what is required toadequately facilitate the adaptation of species and ecosystems to climatechange. International cooperation between states is required, inter aliabecause species and ecosystems will shift their distributions, including acrossjurisdictional boundaries. The article explores the mismatch involved and the associated challenge ofmaking international biodiversity conservation law climate change proof. The article is thus intended to contribute to filling a gap in internationallaw research where, in contrast to climate change mitigation and theadaptation of human systems, the adaptation of natural systems to climatechange remains a largely untilled area.Although this paper is focused on the International BiodiversityConservation Law, but hope the research can be the enlightenment of theimprovement of domestic legal system where the similar research is takingplace.
