On Present China Social Stratification And Its Effect

Since reform and opening-up, China’s social class structure has changed greatly——the original classes have been divided and recombined;new social classes have appeared. As a result, China’s social class structure becomes more diversified and complex. At the same time, social class differentiation is also a basic variable which affects China’s social conditions increasingly. From the perspective of doing research about social class differentiation in contemporary china, and seek solutions for complex social contradictions and problems, which will provide some useful ideas for the construction of harmonious society in china. In recent years, Chinese academic circles have made a great deal of research about social class differentiation and the results are productive, however, for the contemporary China, there are many social contradictions and unharmonious factors along with the process of social class differentiation, which worth making further research. Firstly, this paper introduces the general situation and gives specific details of social class differentiation in modern China, such as the characteristics and reasons of it. Secondly, the study focuses on the analysis of positive effect and negative effect of social class differentiation in contemporary China. Positive effect means that factors are good to the development of china. Such as speeding up the construction of democracy and the rule of law, strengthening social vitality, maintaining social stability, helping people to renew ideas etc. Negative effect refers to the factors do harm to the development of China. For example, wider income gap will threaten social justice; obstacles of class flow will restrain social vitality; intensity of class contradictions will threaten social stability and order. Finally, on the basis of above study, this paper gives some advices to solve problems in the process of social class differentiation:deepening the reform of the administrative system, adjusting the social mobility mechanism, coordinating class interests, balancing urban and rural development, which will guide social class differentiation become more reasonable.
