Based on the existing researching findings, the paper focuses on comparative analysis of Sino-USgeopolitical strategy on the Korean Peninsula, according to the theory of “conflict and cooperation” toexplain the Sino-US interactive relationship on the Korean Peninsula by using the double interactive theory.Conflict and cooperation theory is always the research focus of international politics scholars.“Conflict”has been regarded as a key topic to understand international politics and “cooperation” as one of the bestways to solve “conflict”. Cooperation and conflict are two different states which are unity of opposites.Conflict has cooperation vice versa. Both are interdependent.Korean Peninsula which lies in the center of Northeast Asia is the most strategic area of North Pacific.Korean Peninsula is located between the heart of Eurasia and Marginal seas, where geographical forcesand marine forces intersect. It is the buffer zone of land power and sea power and has been the place ofmilitary and strategic importance. After the World War II, Korean Peninsula became the forward positionof U.S.-Soviet hegemony and was split into two countries which have totally different social systems. Afterthe Cold War, the polar pattern of U.S.-Soviet hegemony collapsed. But the splitting situation of KoreanPeninsula had no substantive change, still having obvious cold war thinking. It became “the living fossil”of cold war. China and Korean Peninsula are just divided by a narrow strip of water and linked bymountains and rivers. Because of the uniqueness of geographical features and history, China and KoreanPeninsula formed the special relationship of “if one falls, the others will be in danger”. The peace andstability of Korean Peninsula will benefit Chinese for stability surrounding and economic development. The Sino-U.S. structural contradiction in the global context also reflects in the Korean Peninsula issue. After the Cold War, U.S. becomes the only superpower in the modern world system, known as havingglobal interests. In order to maintain its dominance of the whole region, U.S. doesn’t admit that anypotential hegemonic challenge to its global hegemony in any areas and Korean Peninsula is no exception.China is the biggest developing country of Asia Pacific Region. The quick development of economy willled to expand of national interests. As for Washington, it will threat American hegemony in Asia PacificRegion and break the equilibrium state of Asia Pacific Region. U.S. is a convention country of the modernworld system and as a new power in this system; China will inevitably have structural contradiction andconflict to U.S., and the contradiction and conflict is obvious in Korean Peninsula issue. Thus, it isnecessary to strength cooperation in collision and conflict to find solution to solve this problem.By using the “conflict and cooperation” theory, this paper will take the issue of Korean Peninsula formasterstroke to compare and analysis the similarities and difference of geopolitical strategy between Chinaand U.S., hoping to study the Sino-U.S. relations by double interactive mode of “conflict and cooperation”and the deep reason of this special relation.Intending to use the method of AHP (Analytic hierarchy process), the paper will compare and analysisthe geopolitical strategy between China and U.S. from the unit, regional and system level of conflict andcooperation and also their interaction. The author comes to the conclusion that after the cold war, theSino-U.S. geopolitical strategy on Korean Peninsula is neither absolute conflict nor cooperation, butdouble interaction of both. On the same issue, China and U.S. both have the cooperation intention which isbased on the same aim and also have conflicts which comes into being because of the cooperation modesand national interests.Structurally, the main body of this paper consists of three parts altogether. Part One, as theintroduction, discusses the research significance and the research thought of this paper. As the main body, part two tries to discuss the reason of Korean Peninsula issue and its present situation and then discuss theconflict and cooperation between China and U.S. on Korean Peninsula issue macroscopically. There aretwo conflicts. One is caused by the inconsistency of aims of the Sino-U.S. geopolitical strategy on KoreanPeninsula and the other is caused by the means by which China and U.S. treat the Korean Peninsula issue. At the same time, this paper also discusses the consistency of the same aim when China and U.S. are facedwith the North Korean nuclear crisis, and that is to say that both sides advocate the denuclearization of theKorean Peninsula and hope that the Korean Peninsula maintains the state of peace and stability. Finally, part two discusses the conflicts and cooperation between China and U.S. from the perspective of specificpolitics, military, safety, ideology, and so on. The last part discusses the Sino-U.S. crisis management whenthey coped with the “Cheonan” crisis and the possibility of cooperation between China and U.S. In the end,the paper comes to the conclusion that towards Korean Peninsula issue, the pattern that China and U.S.adopt is neither single “conflict” nor “cooperation”, but double interactive mode of “conflict andcooperation”.
