Energy is the lifeblood of modern industry and plays a vital role in a country’s economic development. As the world’s major oil importers, China and Japan have been fighting with each other in a fierce battle for the energy due to the remote relation between the two countries, thus both of them paid a heavy price, vicious competition in the field of energy between the two countries do not meet the national interests of both sides in terms of either economic level or political level. Therefore, a practical path must be found by exploring to normalize the field of energy between the two countries. This thesis aims to analyze the roots of the energy competition between the two countries, prescribe recipes for theirs dissent to find a solution to the normalization of energy relations between the two countries. Concerning the necessity of cooperation, both of the two countries face the burden of the rising price from Asia in the field of energy economy. For the two countries, the competitions for energy on the East China Sea and overseas don’t accord with their fundamental interests. Meanwhile, Japanese economy is benefiting widely from the continuously and stably growing economy of China who is the primary investor in Asia. Concerning the possibility of cooperation, there is complementary features between the two countries’energy technology fields, and as long as the two sides behave in a pragmatic manner, their dispute on the East China Sea can be under control. Therefore, the energy cooperation between China an Japan should be carried out in the following ways:First, on the macro-level, China should promote the energy cooperation with Japan by developing and consolidating its strength. Second, on the level of institution constructions, both sides should perfect the existing dialogue mechanism for the ministers of energy sectors, and based on which they ought to establish the bilateral functional energy cooperation organizations to realize the regularization of their energy cooperation.
