China and India are both major countries in energy consumption. The lack of storage and production of the local energy resources makes it a potential threat to the two countries'economic and social development and security. To cope with this difficult challenge, both China and India decided to emphasis the importance of security of energy supplies from the national strategies point. However, it is difficult to avoid vicious competition in the international energy market, so that both sides have paid a great price. China and India need to make choice.China and India have launched a series of co-operation in the international energy market since 2001, including joint development, cooperation in mining, transportation and others. The co-operations won the "win-win" results. The Government of China and India played a very important role in the course of the two sides'energy cooperation. Exchange of visits between leaders of the two countries and the signing of a series of documents has greatly promoted the energy cooperation between the two sides.Although Sino-Indian energy cooperation has made certain achievements, but the scale of cooperation is still not big enough, the two sides are still competitors in the international energy market. The two sides also faced with many difficulties, like: conflicts of interest in the international energy market, the Indian traditional "foreign circles" theory which holds a hostile attitude towards China, the interference and obstruction of Western countries, the border conflict between China and India, and so on. Besides that, Sino-Indian energy cooperation needs to consider the safety, cost, management and technical problems. Although there are many unfavorable factors, both countries have to avoid vicious competition, expand and deepen cooperation in energy security field. It is a major strategic interest of both sides, and also a wise choice of the two sides. In the long run, China and India will be taken co-operation in the field of energy. The two countries can expand energy cooperation in many ways, like cooperation in the Middle East oil imports, the risk control of maritime oil transport, the management of Asia's imports price of oil, the maintenance of international energy market stability, energy efficiency, environmental protection, and so on. The most important, the two sides should proceed immediately to establish a stable long-term mechanism for energy cooperation.
