Study Of Contemporary Chinese Society To Collective Action

Since reform and opening-up policy, China’s economic system and political system haveexperienced a considerable change, especially the economic system, in which a historicaltransformation has taken place. Undeniably, China has made significant achievements, butmeanwhile the problems arised also cannot be ignored. Along with the social civilizationdegree improving, people’s thoughts have subsequently changed, and citizens’ legal rightsand participation consciousness have improved, which is not only the symbol of socialcivilization but also symbolizes the new development in our political civilizationconstruction.However, the lack of national policies has led to various frictions betweencitizens and country constantly. Sociologists Sun Liping pointed out, since1990’s, China’sinterest structure has become more and more serious, the gap is more and more big. Thecontradiction uninterruptly backloged and its outbreak has caused the occurrence of collectiveaction extremely easily, which brought bad effect to social stability. In recent years, alongwith our country increasing collective action events (or group incidents), research on thereasons of collective action events and the system regulation is imminent. Despite the rapidincrease of the Chinese masses events have not triggered widespread political unrest or socialunrest, we have to admit that at present our government and related departments still lackof effective solution to group incidents.The American famous political economist Olson, in his book the logic of collective action,discussed on collective action problems. In this work, based on the assumptions of rationalperson and free rider, he studied historical events and thought that collective action is noteasy to accomplish. He criticized traditional point--personal will actively promote therealization of the collective benefit-that it was not logical. Although the theory ofcollective action of Olsen has great effect in explanation free rider rationally, consideringthat China’s current frequent collective action, it is a actually unsatisfactory solution.The emergence of many collective actions showed that the Chinese present specific socialenvironment has broken the "collective action dilemma". Based on this logic starting point,this paper continues to explore the factors breaking dilemma and the setting on regulationin group collective mechanism.This paper firstly explained related theory framework as logic fulcrum, including Olson’scollective action theory and western ‘rational people’ supposition theory. Olsen explainedcollective action dilemma, analysis on the group formed based on the interests, scale effecton the results, the external factors of a collective action generated and the results. Secondly,from our particular political, economic and cultural environment, the paper discussed the characteristics and development trends in current collective action, and found that thecollective action in current China was how to break the predicament of "collective action".Finally, by comparing Olsen’s collective action theory with China’s actual situation,regulating by classifing collective action, constraction of mechanism for resolving conflictsand expanding ways of expression of interest should be put into consideration in order to makethe collective action standardized and legalized.
