After World War Ⅱ, the economic diplomacy took a very important roll in the course of Japan’s diplomacy. In essence, the economic serviced for the national interests. With the proportion of political and economic components changing, the main way of economic diplomacy will change as well. Southeast Asia is the main area of Japan’s economic diplomacy, and many countries in this area had received the economic diplomacy. And Thailand is the typical one. Since the end of World War Ⅱ, Japan took a full range of economic diplomacy in Thailand, which involved trade, investment and official development assistance. So we can say that Japan’s economic diplomacy in Thailand is a microcosm of Japan’s economic diplomacy in the Southeast Asia. Therefore, researching the Japan’s economic diplomacy in Thailand has great significance.In the process of research, I took the evolution of Japan’s national interests and the adjust of its foreign policy as the researching axis and took the historical time as the study order; took the typical economic diplomatic events as the focus to analysis Japan’s economic diplomacy. The evolution of Japan’s national interests and the adjusting of its foreign policy as following:the "Economic First" in the1950s and1960s; the positive economic diplomacy in1970s, which took "Fukuda Doctrine"; then after the Cold War, Japan began to pay more attention to the political interests.Through the research and analysis, I suggest that the Japan’s economic diplomacy in Thailand is successful. It not only got the national interests and achieved the foreign policy objectives in the each historical stage, but became a good economic diplomacy example to another country. Although it has many problems, we can not deny the achievement of Japan’s economic diplomacy. China, also implementing the economic diplomacy, can get lots of inspiration and learn more from Japan.
