As a crucial part of the Eurasian continent, the strategic importance of Southeast Asia can not be ignored because of its location. After the Cold War, the United States has made quite some big adjustment in this area because of the rising of the economy and strategic position of Southeast Asia. According to its national interests, U.S continuously strengthens its military presence in this region. Southeast Asia, the neighbor of China, is the only access for China to the world in all ages. China maintains friendly exchange with most countries of Southeast Asia. China will be affected by any action of the U.S. in this area in terms of either national security or the geopolitics. Therefore, there will be no double of great practical significance for researching the United States’Southeast Asia strategy after the Cold War, and China’s strategic countermeasure. With Obama Administration’s new strategy in Southeast Asia, the analysis and research on its new strategies timely will provide theoretical basis for China to adjust its Southeast Asia foreign policies.The White House announces returning Southeast Asia since Obama took power. The secretary of State Hillary went straight to Aisa,changing the tradition of first visiting Europe or Middle East. Obama said the United States is the "Pacific State",and claimed frankly that the United States should pay more attention to Asia, the emphasis on Southeast Asia. This essay, through retrospect and comparison on the evolution of U.S.’s strategy in Southeast Asia, gives a theoretical thinking and analysis on this subject and summarizes the major content. The U.S. is effctively participating in Southeast Asia affairs across-the-board to seek leadership in the Southeast Asia. However, the effects of implementing U.S. strategy in Southeast Asia will inevitably suffer restrictions from various factors. Finally, it analysis the influence of U.S.’security strategy in Southeast Asia on China. Through analysis, the essay holds that China and the U.S. have contradictory security interest in Southeast Aisa, but it is obvious of negative influence. China should initiatively promote the cooperation between China and U.S. through strengthening dialogue, exchange and cooperation. At the same time, We should attach greater importnace on cooperation wih the ASEAN as well.
