In Contemporary Western World, the conflict between multi-culture and identity has become a widespread and significant political issue. How to get equal acknowledgment and treatment for different groups with unique identity and dissimilar region culture has become a comprehensive concern within a multi-ethnic country. As the main exponent of communitaianism theory, Charles Taylor makes a representative and crucial contribution to this issue. According to the standpoint of communitarianism, Taylor points out the importance of community for individuals from the relationship between individual and community. He emphasizes the importance of the historical heritage and culture of community in shaping personal identity that individual is the product of community and culture which he belongs to. Personal identity is formed in community during the constantly process of contacting with others. Due to the dialogue with each other, individual acquire the respect of others. That is the reason why we should esteem the community culture which individual belongs to and confess the difference of diverse culture, when we show our respect to individual. By inspecting the two kinds of modern equality politics that is dignity politics and difference politics and reflecting the Western Universalism, Taylor puts forward his difference politics theory. He believes that he found out "the third road",namely moderate liberalism with a notable feature that is recognize difference and adhere to equality as well, which surpasses the value of dignity politics and difference politics. In this paper, I will elaborate systematic the main contents of "the politics of recognition", thereby providing a theory to understand the multiculturalism from the view of communitaianism. From the prospect of political practice, by researching the Quebec Separatism Movement in Canada, I will point out the meaning of this paper for dealing with the problem of the relationship between "variety" and "unity", thereby providing a meaningful exploration for multi-culture to co-exist with harmony relationship.
